Greetings trainers! We here on Advent like to keep our games as organized as possible. We do this by having players play in groups called sessions. Much like many real life roleplay games, we also allow for players to play in a group handled by a Game Master or Narrator of sorts. It makes for controlled playing and also makes it impossible for intruders to come in and ruin your game. Much like real life RPGs, sessions will be limited to a single task or goal. Setting up this goal is up to the starting player.
Here is a step-by-step guide on starting a session:
Step 1) Begin a thread
Simply click on the New Thread button and type in the title of your adventure. From inside, you type out all the needed information about it. In that summerary you will state your trainer's name, where he is starting from, and where he is going. Or if you are a Narrator, you will describe the starting location of the adventure and wait for some free trainers to come around.
Step 2) Set a goal
A goal is something simple that can be accomplished in at least a months time. Any longer and people might think you are boring. What is considered a valid goal is when the starting player is to reach a certain location or accomplish an achievement. Goals can also change depending on the situation. For example, you are a new trainer and you want to get your starters. Before getting them from Professor Oak, he tells you that he wants you to get him a special package and bring it to him. The original goal has now changed to the request that Oak asked from you. Changed goals will be stated by the Narrator. A session will end when a goal is complete.
Step 3) Bring in a Narrator and some Players
If you are a Narrator then all you need to do is wait for some players to come in to play. If you are just a normal Player then you will need to get a Narrator before you can begin the game. You can either wait for one or you can invite one over to join. Having a regular Narrator that you know will make it a lot easier to start games so be sure to get to know some. Whether you be Player or Narrator, you can set up a limit on how many players can join at the time. It is highly recommended that you don't hold more than three or four others since more bakers in the kitchen can ruin the dish.
Step 4) Start your adventure
You are now starting to play the roleplay. From here on out, you are in character in your posts. The Narrator plays as the NPCs and the wild pokemon. Any story will be up to your own imagination. With the mindset of having a short term goal within reach, you can do anything to fill in the journey from point A to point B. Sometimes the Narrator will throw in a very curve balls your way like having a thief steal your money and you have to get it back. Or you have your pokemon train to become stronger.
